Virginia Health Information (VHI) has published its 2020 Industry Report detailing the efficiency and productivity of hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers and nursing homes licensed in Virginia. Included in the Industry Report is data on charity care, staffing levels, profit margins and more than a dozen other utilization and efficiency indicators across five performance categories: charges, costs, productivity and utilization, financial viability and community support. "Widely recognized as the #1 decision support tool for comparing the performance of Virginia's healthcare providers, only the Industry Report ranks healthcare providers on their efficiency, productivity and outcomes of care," says Michael Lundberg, VHI's Chief Executive Officer. Published every year, the report includes information on how often hospitals treat 39 different medical and surgical Service Lines - included are orthopedic, obstetric, transplant, psychiatric, cancer care, open heart surgery and over 30 other categories detailing each hospital's entire book of business.
"As a former accountant for a hospital, I enjoy seeing how the data I previously submitted is being used on the receiving end in my current position at VHI. My previous hospital experience provides me with an understanding of the intricacies of finance departments and giving those submitting the data a level of assurance that, whereas I am new to this current position, I have been in their shoes before," says Nicole Allen, VHI's new Healthcare Accountant.
Congratulations to this year's hospitals below as the top five overall most efficient and productive:
