WHO?
Virginia Health Information. That's us. We are a nonprofit organization created to embrace healthcare transparency in Virginia. Our team is comprised of 12 individuals with different backgrounds and specialized skill sets, meaning every employee plays an important role in contributing to VHI's success. Our Board of Directors is a diverse group of thought-leaders in the healthcare industry that represent the Commonwealth of Virginia, healthcare providers, consumers and businesses. VHI's Stakeholders nominate members for the Board of Directors and include organizations representing businesses, the Commonwealth of Virginia, hospitals, insurance companies, nursing facilities and physicians.
WHAT?
VHI considers ourselves Virginia's one-stop shop for healthcare data. VHI's Mission is to "enhance the quality and value of healthcare delivery and promote informed healthcare decisions by Virginia consumers, purchasers and other stakeholders by creating and disseminating healthcare information." In other words, VHI collects and translates data to educate the public and encourage them to make knowledgeable decisions based on our data and reports.
WHEN?
VHI's work dates back to 1993 when legislation established the Patient Level Data System and formal stakeholder collaboration to clear a path for expansion to a variety of health information across multiple settings. In 1996, House Bill 1307 was signed into Chapter 7.2, Healthcare Data Reporting of the Virginia Code. Through this legislation, the Commissioner of Health established a contract with a nonprofit health data organization to develop and implement health data projects with actionable information for consumers and purchasers of healthcare.
WHERE?
VHI's office is located in the capitol of Virginia - Richmond. This allows us to work closely with the General Assembly and other government organizations to provide healthcare data to support legislation. However, our work is not confined to just the state. We work on a variety of projects with other state and national organizations such as the National Association of Health Data Organizations, Milliman MedInsight, and Collective Medical (just to name a few).
WHY?
VHI understands that consumers want and demand good care and quality service when it comes to healthcare, which is why we strive to be a non-biased resource for the public. We promote healthcare transparency by publishing reports such as Hospital Patient Satisfaction, the Healthcare Pricing Transparency Report, the Cardiac Care Report, and more.Let us take you from "Numbers to Knowledge", stay up-to-date with news from Virginia Health Information by following us on Facebook and Twitter!
