Additional Information
VHI compiles data from Virginia’s All-Payer Claims Database (APCD) to create this dashboard.
Analyze rates of potentially avoidable ED visits by region, condition and payer to help inform efforts to reduce unnecessary ED usage, such as improving access to primary care.
Classifications of avoidability are based solely on primary diagnosis codes listed on paid claims included within the Virginia APCD. These classifications do not adjust for variables like visit timing, access to primary care or social determinants of health.
