Ultrasound (2018)

What is an ultrasound?

An ultrasound test uses the echoes from high-frequency sound waves to create a video or photo image. Ultrasound is used during pregnancy to show images of the baby, and can also help to detect major abnormalities or birth defects. Typically, the sound waves are transmitted with a device called a transducer, which is simply held to the mother's abdomen. A gel is applied to the skin first to make the sound wave echos easier to detect.
