VIRGINIA HEALTH INFORMATION TRACKS CORONAVIRUS CASES IN VIRGINIA
COMMONWEALTH HAS SECOND HIGHEST RATE OF CONFIRMED COVID-19 CASES COMPARED TO NEIGHBORING STATES
With so many different resources on the web, finding statistics on the coronavirus may differ depending on where you look. For Virginians, Virginia Health Information has compiled resources from across the Commonwealth on how the virus is affecting our communities on a daily basis. VHI's Coronavirus Cases dashboard incorporates data published by the Virginia Department of Health, the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association, and includes daily trends in the number of cases, tests, hospitalizations and deaths in Virginia. Tracking figures are updated daily and the functionality of the dashboard will continue to be expanded in the coming weeks.
What do we know?
- Average Testing Positive Rate in the month of April is 17.8% which is in line with the current national average (16.5% - CDC Coronavirus)
- Virginia is averaging 2,382 new tests per day in the month of April
- Virginia is expected to experience peak resource use related to COVID-19 on April 23rd (Institute for Health Metrics) which is later than the peak for the U.S. overall which was projected to already have occurred on April 10th
- Virginia is currently projected to have the number of ICU beds, total beds and total ventilators needed to treat COVID-19 patients without experiencing a shortage
- Virginia ranks second in the most COVID-19 cases compared to its neighboring states (CDC Coronavirus)
